This site is optimized for the reader, not for Google
September 15, 2009
In the last few weeks, I’ve received wonderful feedback regarding the answer button. Visitors are able to better challenge themselves and as a result, people are coming back more often. There is a downside though: my site loses rankings!
For those of you who don’t know, rankings allow my site to appear in more search results. So when someone is looking for information to do with, say, benefit cost ratios, this site doesn’t appear as high on their results, if at all. Why? Because most of the “meat” is buried in those pop-up boxes rather than sitting on the pages themselves.
The good thing is that I’m not going to change the site for search engine optimization purposes. That’s not why this site exists. I’m getting people from all over the world showing up here and although I don’t have the reach I wish I have (I’m getting several hundred unique visitors per week), I can’t complain. After all, I’m not in front of as many students as I used to be, I haven’t spent much time optimizing the site, I’ve done zero advertising, and this site has only been up for 10 short weeks.
However, if you feel that this site has helped you prepare for your exam, please tell a friend. Almost everyone who is studying for one of these exams knows at least one other person in the same boat. That’s all I ask. You don’t need to click on any ads here, you don’t need to buy any prep books from my site, and you don’t need to donate any money, simply let someone know that the information at PM Test Center has helped you.
Expect to see a lot of questions in your email tomorrow
August 8, 2009
I’m going to finish loading up all the archived test questions tonight. That means that your email will include 20-25 questions. So, in less than two days, the site will be fully cut over from the other site. That’s the good news.
The bad news is that after experimenting and testing all day, email subscribers will not be able to see answers in their email. Most of my audience visit the site rather than receive email only so their needs come first. Also, one of the most common suggestions was to hide the answers. Well, I did that. The problem is that when I hide it on the blog post (the answers are displayed by clicking a button), they are now hidden in the emails. I tried several potential solutions and I believe this is the best outcome. If you have a better idea, I’m all ears.
In the meantime, as a result, if an email subscriber likes the emailed question and wants to see the answer, he/she will have to click on a link provided at the end of the question and come to pmtestcenter.com.
Big Changes for PM Test Center
August 7, 2009
As you can tell, the site has gone through a total makeover. Not only is pmtestcenter.com cleaner, but it also has much more functionality:
- Added buttons for Digg, Reddit, dzone, and Yahoo Buzz for each post
- Created a top nav
- Converted labels to categories
- Added new tags
- Provided a method to hide answers
Bear with me for the next few days while I continue to test the new features so I can provide you with the best possible site experience. Don’t worry, even though the entire archive isn’t back on the site yet, you will still get a new question every day!
